VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

Under Wisconsin law, voters do not need a reason or excuse to request an Absentee ballot.  Any voter who prefers to vote by absentee ballot may request one for each election. To request an absentee ballot, you have to submit a request in writing to the clerk's office. 

You must be a registered voter before you can request an absentee ballot. Visit MyVote to view your voter record.

HOW TO REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT

ONLINE.  Submit an absentee ballot application using MyVote.

BY MAIL. Download the Wisconsin Application for Absentee Ballot. Complete and sign the form and mail it, along with your photo ID, to:

   PO Box 240
   Shawano, WI 54166

BY EMAIL. Send an email to [email protected]. Your email must include the following:

  • Full name, including first, middle, last
  • Voting address
  • Mailing address if different than voting address
  • A copy of your photo ID
  • Name(s) of calendar year election(s)

PHOTO ID
Unless you are a military voter, permanently overseas, or are indefinitely confined, you must provide a copy of your photo ID with your absentee ballot application. The address on the ID does not need to be current.  Click here for a list of acceptable photo IDs.

Voters who are indefinitely confined (meaning they have difficulty getting to the polls due to age, illness, infirmity, or disability) may request a ballot be sent to them for every election by checking the box on the application.  Indefinitely confined voters are not required to provide photo ID. 

APPLICATION DEADLINE
Applications for absentee ballots must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before an election. 

IN-PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING (IPAV)
IPAV is available beginning the Tuesday two weeks prior to an election and closing the Sunday before Election Day.
